SEO TIPS AND TRICKS

12 Most Important SEO Tips

Google search algorithm changes all the time and there are hundreds of different techniques to achieve higher ranking in the search results, but these basic fundamental SEO Tips have not changed for a long time now and every webmaster should implement them to achieve better Search Rankings.
Some like to refer to it as Google Optimization and I think it is simply because of a small difference in how Google, Yahoo or MSN rank websites in their search results but Google is #1 Search engine today and many other engines use Google index for their search results. Regardless these tips will work for all engines. Free tips below are not in any particular order of importance as they are all crucial factors in Optimizing your site for Top rankings.
Here are Top 8 most important Free SEO Tips that anyone can give you:

SEO TIP #1, FIND RELATED KEYWORDS

Before you even build your website you need to determine what niche or theme your website is about. Same with any other page, there’s going to be main topic for it. Once you decide on topic, you need to find keywords and phrases that relate to your theme, analyze them and pick most relevant ones but they also should be keywords in demand. It would be a waste of your time to optimize your website for keywords that nobody is even searching for. How do you find in demand keywords? The most popular resources areWordTrackerKeywordCountry and KeywordElite. Using these tools you will be able to narrow your keywords to ones that have the highest search volume and not that many websites to compete against which is known as Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI).

SEO TIP #2, ANALYZE YOUR COMPETITION

Website linking structure and number of links pointing to your site or page is crucial to ranking High in Google and if you rank good in Google, chances are you’ll probably do good in Yahoo and other search engines but top 3 search engines that will bring most traffic are Google, Yahoo and MSN. Analyzing your competitors is important and included in Free SEO tips because search engines do analyze incoming links to your website as part of their ranking criteria which is called Page Rank (PR).
So what other websites are doing to rank on top of search results. In order to find out you need to gather a significant amount of data about the top ranking sites for whatever keyword or phrase you are trying to optimize your page for, like:
  1. Competitions rank in the Search Engines Results for given keyword
  2. The number of incoming links to the site home page, not including internal links.
  3. What keywords they use in the title tag
  4. Number of links containing keywords in the link text
  5. PageRank of linking pages
  6. The Alexa traffic ranking
Most of this information can be collected free by querying Google and Yahoo (Read about it in thisAnalyzing Individual Keyword Phrase article) and using free seo tools but it is very time consuming and you can’t get all data in one place.
I use This SEO Tool that can easily crawl a Web site and compile statistics on keyword usage throughout the site with single click of a mouse and all data is displayed in one window.

SEO TIP #3, TITLE OPTIMIZATION

Many SEO professionals still argue over this but the page title tag element is still one of the most important factors for ranking highly in the search engines.
The title tag is displayed as the first line of text in the blue row at the top of any browsing window. Search Engine Friendly title tag is ideally 3-9 words (60-80 characters) maximum in length, straight and to the point, this is what will show up in search engine results as a link to your page. Have at least one main keyword in title tag but don’t stuff all of your keywords in it. SEO Tip: make sure your Page Title Tag is relevant to the content on the page and EVERY page should have it’s own Title tag.
(Read more and see title tag examples in this Meta tags article.)

SEO TIP #4, META TAGS OPTIMIZATION

META tags are hidden code of information in the head area of your web pages and is used to communicate with search engine spiders/crawlers. The most important META tags you need to utilize in your webpages are:
  1. Description
  2. Keywords
  3. Robots
I personally don’t believe that sequencing of these tags in certain order is that important. Even though I see many websites put title tag after description and keywords tags lately but there is no proof that it is better for SEO.
Optimization of Description Meta tags
The effective META description tag consists of 25 to 30 words or less but using no more than 160 to 180 characters total (including spaces) or some Search Engines would not consider it Search Engine Friendly.
Read more and see meta tags examples in this Meta tags article.
Optimization of Keywords Meta tags
The meta keyword tag is also sometimes useful as a way to help your page come up for synonyms or unusual words that don’t appear on the page itself but don’t fret too much over your Keywords Meta tag, instead utilize keywords and keyword phrases from your Title Tag element, Description Meta Tag, heading tag and first one or two paragraphs of visible content. Optimal Keyword Meta Tag has 15 to 20 words max.SEO Tip: Don’t repeat your keywords more than 3 times or search engine will consider it as spam of their search results and don’t include keywords that are not in the main content section of your page.
(Read more and see keywords tag examples in this Meta tags article.)
Robots Meta tag will let search engine know if you want a particular page to be or NOT be indexed or to follow or not to follow links on given page. (Read more and see robots tag examples in this Robots txtarticle.)

SEO TIP #5, OPTIMIZE PAGES WITH HEADINGS

Header tags will tell the search engine what words are important in the context of your page. Using <h1>,<h2>,<h3>, etc.. tags is the best way to highlight important keywords. With that in mind consider using keywords relevant to the page content (theme) in your Header Tags. The best practice is to place your primary keyword in your <h1> tags and your secondary keyword into the <h2> tags.
You can think of an <h1> header tag as a title for whatever content you have on your page and you should have ONLY ONE (1) h1 tag on any page.
h2 and h3 header tags should be thought of as a sub headings for your page. You should place your 2nd most important keyword in the <h2> header tag. The <h2> tag should be placed somewhere towards the top half of your webpage, in any case below <h1> tag.
(Read more and see header tag examples in this article about Header tags.)

SEO TIP #6, USE DEEP LINKING AND ANCHOR TEXT

When you exchange links or submit your website to directories you want to link to as many pages on your site as possible as this will tell search engines that you have a lot of good and worthwhile content. If you have all links pointing to your homepage it will tell search engine that your site is very shallow and they might think that the links were created with some automation software instead of naturally (organic).
Use keywords in Anchor text of your links but you definitely don’t want all your incoming links to look the same, because that also looks like automation and you might get red flagged by Google. SEO Tip: Use your website URL sometimes, your company name other times and different but related keywords in anchor text of inbound links.
Getting as many as possible inbound links have become #1 priority in SEO world as that will get your website higher Page Rank and therefore higher rankings in Search results. There are different links you can acquire: Reciprocal and One Way links. One way links are by far better and much harder to get but any link you can get to point to your website is better than none. To get free one way links I use Free tools likeDirectory submitter and Article Submitter .
(Learn more about different types of links in this article: One Way Links, Reciprocal or both?)

SEO TIP #7, CREATE SITE MAP AND GOOGLE XML MAP

Every website needs a Sitemap big or small. Sitemap should be linked to from every page on your site. A site map will help users and search engine robots find all the important pages on your site with just two clicks. This is especially helpful if your site has a hard-to-crawl navigation menu like java script or images based navigation. For WordPress blogs I recommend downloading this free sitemap generator plugin. You can see example on my sitemap page.
Smaller sites can use second navigation bar in the footer that will act as a small mini site map. This is nothing more than all your important pages as links in the footer.
By submitting a XML Sitemap to a search engine, you are making easier for that engine crawlers to crawl and index pages of your site. As Google describes it in this article
Sitemaps are particularly beneficial when users can’t reach all areas of a website through a browseable interface.
For regular websites there are many free online xml sitemap generators, just Google it but for your WordPress blog you can use this free Google XML sitemap generator plugin as it will also create Robots.txt file which is the next Free SEO Tip.

SEO TIP #8, CREATE ROBOTS.TXT FILE

The robots.txt file will instruct search engine robots what pages and/or folders on your blog or website should be or should NOT be crawled and indexed. Most Content Management Software (WordPress, Joomla, etc.) will have files and folders that are not relevant for search engines (like images or admin files) and you really don’t want them to crawl them because there is no relevant content on them so creating a simple robots.txt file can actually improve your website crawlability and therefore rankings and organic traffic.
(Learn more and see robots.txt examples in this article about Robots.txt file.)
There are many more valuable SEO Tips that you need to use when building a website or creating pages and you can read the rest of the Tips on next page: Other Free SEO Tips.

SEO TIP #9, OPTIMIZING WITH ALT TEXT

Alt text is the line of text you see pop up when you place your cursor over an image. It also displays a text representation of the image when the user has images turned off in their browser.
Since it is indexed by the search engines, the alt text attribute can help your SEO but should not to be stuffed with keywords or phrases. The alt text should reflect the content of the image that is again relevant to the page content. (Learn more and see examples in this article about Using Alt Text.)

SEO TIP #10, USE SEO-FRIENDLY URLS

If your website is run by CMS, you should always enable the SEO friendly Url structure. For example WordPress by default uses numeric permalinks (?p=123) which displays url like www.yourdomain.com/?p=123. You should change your permalinks to this custom option: /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/(This will return this url : www.yourdomain.com/2007/12/24/post-title) or just /%postname%/(This will return this url : www.yourdomain.com/post-title) and enable the customizable permalinks. This is a search-engine friendly URL that’s commonly used.
Either way you should try to use keywords in url’s and file names and always use hyphens instead underscores. (for example: www.yourdomain.com/seo-tips.html ) (Related article: Dashes or Underscores in URL? )

SEO TIP #11, SOCIAL BOOKMARKING AND MARKETING

Join the appropriate online social communities like StumbleUpon or MyblogLog and become an active, contributing member of the sites. Also adding a AddThis button on your website will give your visitors to bookmark and add your pages to many social networks.

SEO TIP #12, ARTICLE MARKETING

Article Marketing is still one of the greatest techniques that can be used to achieve FREE search engine rankings, PR and traffic (and make affiliate sales).

FACEBOOK SEO TIPS

3 Unusual Facebook SEO Tips That Google Panda Will LOVE!

Google's mind-blowing bombshells are taking the internet by storm! In my Twitter SEO tips article, I presented lots of evidence that Google is becoming outrageously social. Google + 1 button and Panda updates are just two examples. While Google + 1 was met with rave reviews, Panda, on the other hand, raised many
questions and red flags.
To make our life easier, Amit Singhal, head of Google’s ranking team, provided 23 questions you need to address when evaluating your web content. Answering these questions accurately is essential since Google Panda uses similar evaluation criteria for SERP purposes.
My bold claim is that if you take to heart these 23 questions and applied them to your Facebook SEO strategy, you will get so much Panda lovin!
This article will discuss 2 points:
  • Summary of the "Panda Lovin formula"
  • How can you use this information to skyrocket your Facebook SEO

Summary of the "Panda Lovin formula"

The tips presented here are very general in the sense they apply to any kind of web content (your site/blog, social media profiles…etc.). Here are 3 key points that you must keep into account:
  1. Your web content must be compelling enough for people to browse not bounce! (It's not enough to get backlinks and tones of traffic; visitors must spend some time on your site to rank high with Panda)
  2. Would people trust your site enough to give you their credit card information? (TRUST is big deal with Panda)
  3. Crappy and/or redundant content will hurt your rankings even if you still have some "Goodies". (You must clean up your site from all the law-quality content and don't count on the assumption that good quality will overshadow poor quality because as far as Panda is concerned, the opposite in true!)

3 Tips To Skyrocket Your Facebook SEO The Panda Way

As I mentioned earlier, Panda's love equals creating outstanding user experience that will get them to stick around and trust your content enough to share it with the world. In Facebook Jargon, this translates into:
  • Creating killer Facebook pages that have the "You gotta like me coz I'm hot!" factor
  • Intelligently engaging your page fans so they keep coming back for more
  • Leveraging Facebook features to become more visible to potential fans
Let's discuss them one by one…

Facebook SEO For Panda Tip 1: Create Killer Facebook Pages That Have The "You Gotta Like Me Coz I'm Hot!" Factor

There's no rule of thumb as to what makes a Facebook page likeable to potential fans. It's a very relative issue that depends on the nature of your business. For a healthy dose of inspiration, here are some widely diverse examples of great Facebook page ideas:

Facebook SEO For Panda Tip 2: Intelligently Engage Your Page Fans So They Keep Coming Back For More

Did you know that the mere act of liking your page doesn't guarantee that your posts will appear on your fans top news feeds?
In other words, if your fan visits your page every blue moon and never comments, likes or shares your posts, they won't be visible on his top news feeds. Here's a must-read article that addresses this issue in details: The Mystery of the Facebook News Feed.
This leads to a very logical conclusion: It's not enough to entice people to "like" your page; you must encourage them to come back again to enjoy your irresistible content.
If you want to get people to comment/share your page posts, the following tips will help you out:
  • Always lead your post with a question and then provide relevant info and reference links. Here is an example of a comment-stimluating  post:
Would you go for Lady Gaga or Guy Kawasaki? Check out these killer Facebook page ideas and name your fave :) http://holykaw.alltop.com/facebook-tips-from-lady-gaga-and-guy-kawasaki
  • Make your fans answers short and sweet. Brief questions that require one-word or few words to answer have higher commenting rate than lengthy ones. That's a no-brainer if you ask me! After all, Who has time for writing ultra-lengthy answers?! Here's an example of a question that people would love to answer:
If you can describe Twitter in one word, what would it be?
  • Some twitter tips can be applied to Facebook. As an example, it's a highly recommended Twitter sharing tactic to explicitly ask for retweets. Similarly, asking people to comment and/or share your Facebook post can work like charm (If, and only if, your post was good enough to be perceived as comment-worthy and share-worthy. It's up to you!)

Facebook SEO For Panda Tip 3: Leverage Facebook Features to Become More Visible to Potential Fans

Without tip 3, the first 2 tips will completely pointless. Think about it: What if you created the greatest content on earth but kept it buried and invisible! What value would it present to your business?
That's why; visibility is a big deal. Still, these tips are presented in the right order because the last thing you want is to have a highly visible mediocre page! Spend enough time revamping your page. Then, plan ahead cool ideas to keep your fans interested and finally, reach out to them.
The following video tutorials give two somewhat unknown Facebook page visibility tips. Enjoy!
Facebook Page Visibility Tip 1: How To Create a Link To Your Page On Top of Your Facebook Profile
Facebook Page Visibility Tip 2: How To Use The "Use Facebook As a Page" Feature To Maximize Your Page Visibility
I barely touched the surface here! There are so many Facebook visibility tips that you can apply. It's important to choose the ones that best suit your business and remember that visibility should be a key component in your overall Facebook SEO plan.

In Conclusion, Are You Pro Or Against The Panda "Attack"?

Let me answer this question by justifying the article title: I used the words "Unusual Facebook SEO tips". But are any of the tips presented here unusual?
Yes, they are unusual because I am referring to them with regards to SEO (not SMM!). Nowhere in Amit's questions have I seen any reference to keyword density, link building or any traditional SEO jargon.
Thanks to Google Panda, the gap between SEO and SMM is getting so narrow that I feel they are so close to becoming synonyms!
I bet sites, such as ezinearticles, that were tragically affected by the Panda attack would beg to differ but I love Google Panda. No longer will you and I need to shatter our time and energy between SMM and SEO. All we need is to create great content that people will share socially and Google will love.
Still, I wouldn’t say you should completely toss away the good old Keywords-based Facebook SEO tips but one thing I know for certain: the keyword density craze is over! That's a relief.
Bottom line, if you are willing to play the Panda game right, your number one priority should be creating content that people will trust, enjoy and share.
What's your take on Google Panda? What other "unusual' Facebook SEO tips would you recommend? I can't wait to find out :)

SEO WITH FACEBOOK

Why SEO for Facebook is now crucial
Whereas most SEOs think “Google” and other mainstream engines when gauging the effect social media profiles on organic SERPs, Facebook is quickly becoming a massive walled-garden parallel organic internet. Think Facebook internal search results won’t matter? Think again and start “optimizing.”
According to its publicly released statistics, Facebook claims 120 million of its registered members log in at least once each day. Every month friends share 1 billion photographs and 10 million videos. In any given week users post over a billion content blocks, news stories, links and blog posts. There are over 45 million active user groups. Little-to-none of Facebook’s is activity is indexed by Google and other mainstream engines. It’s easy to see why Facebook’s members-only organic search results deserve attention!
At the root of this new consideration is the reality that Facebook is now allowing users to search the last 30 days of their news feed for status updates, photos, links, videos and notes being shared by friends and the Facebook pages of which they’re fans.
Check out my personal Facebook search results (from among friends) for “Indian food.”  I see my friend Reem ate Indian food  for lunch.
marty1
If other users have chosen to make their content available to everyone, you also will be able to search for their status updates, links and notes, regardless of whether or not you are friends. Search results will continue to include people’s profiles as well as pertinent Facebook Pages, groups and applications. Also note the cool ability to filter your personal  “search visibility” by various Facebook internal channels: links, status updates, wall posts and notes.
marty2
There are  commercial results in my Facebook wide “everyone” SERPs from a restaurant promoting their participation in the San Francisco Food Festival.
marty3
Here’s another commercially-tinted result, R2 Indian Buffet. The listing was was sourced from R2′s Facebook Indian Buffet page.
marty4
Look at these 2 results for the search “seafood in New York.” Chef Andrew Hunter’s listing comes as a result of his using the words “seafood & New York” in the most current wall post.
marty5
marty6
Next, Andrea Cohn’s profile comes up #2 for “seafood in New York.  She’s promoting the Bongo seafood lounges, in West Village and Chelsea, with a wall post of  a martiniboys.com listing. Facebook is showing the title tag of the Bongo post Andrea bookmarked.
marty7
One other important observation: Bing is the official Facebook “web results” search engine. With the recent Microsoft/Yahoo deal Bing will be also be powering Yahoo. Consider the branding and traffic implications of Bing powering Facebook behind the garden wall, especially when one click actually takes users to Bing.com.
marty8
Ten Facebook SEO tips
1. Search results continue to include people’s profiles as well as pertinent Facebook pages, groups and applications. Therefore what you’ve done to date still works. The gravity of Facebook groups, which some thought lame, will increase as Facebook internal search is adopted.
2. Facebook gives us some clues regarding its algorithmic ranking factors.  Read it and understand. Stay up to speed on changes in the Facebook blog, as they will certainly occur.  Hopefully as Facebook grows they’ll make a search quality team ambassador available like Google’s Matt Cutts and Bing’s Sasi Parthasarathy. As people learn to spam these results, Facebook will react and SEOs will want more information.
3. In addition to wall posts, think SEO in tendering status updates, links and notes. You never know who will find it, searching for whatever.
4. Wall-post external content like blog posts and news should be optimized for important keywords, especially the content’s title tag.  If possible post content where the call to action and/or contact information is actually in the title tag. This gets your pitch to the search results as opposed to requiring a second click through to a profile page.
5. If you want your promotional data indexed in the wider Facebook, outside of your friends, make sure you select “everyone” in privacy settings > search. Though it’s possible users might not be happy if they were aware, existing accounts default to “everyone,” understanding this is a cool inside tip for early success.
When “everyone” is selected, others may see your data regardless of whether or not you are friends.  Reciprocally, users should uncheck if they want to exclude their profile from wider Facebook SERPs.   It would not be surprising if users protest when folks start to discover that all of a sudden some of their personal sharing is visible to everyone.
marty9
7. Remember that it’s not only wider (non-friends) Facebook search that matters. Your friends, friends of friends, networks and networks of friends are likely to trust you a bit more since you’re “local.”  It’s fascinating to extrapolate the implications of a “trusted local personal search network.” As a user or searcher, be aware of how Facebook search privacy settings function.
8. Seek advice from other tools Facebook gives us regarding users common social graphs.Lexicon, which is about to get deeper, and the Facebook paid search platform offer cool insight regarding what’s hot.
9. Contribute continually.  A good portion of the physical search results are comprised of social graph points generated within the last 30 days.
10. Be there or be square! Stay tuned for attributes, in and out of Facebook, may factor in the search results as Facebook evolves.
A crucial new channel for search marketers to master
All of this has potentially massive repercussions for how marketers view Facebook chatter.  By really digging deep into how Facebook is searching internal content, you’ll be tapping into the next level of the web’s development, uncovering a gold mine of data about what people are talking about, what they like and dislike, and how they are influencing the opinions of others. This is clearly an important search frontier.
Dig around. Learn the specifics in form and functionality of Facebook’s newly enhanced organic search results. In order to “optimize” for Facebook internal search, it’s important to learn precisely what areas of participation to focus on for the most influence. Facebook gives us a bit of ranking criteria information regarding how the engine is wired. Facebook groups will matter more than before, as a result of the new search algorithm, if & when Facebook internal search achieves wider adoption.
As always in social media marketing, leveraging friends’ (and your own) recommendations, without being a spammer, is sticky business.  Follow the timeless axioms of social media participation. give more than you take by contributing unselfish & recurrent content recommendations for others to consume. Be holistic in how you promote your own content and (as always) think in terms of supporting the community first.

Search Engine Optimization

What is search engine optimization?
Whenever you enter a query in a search engine and hit 'enter' you get a list of web results that contain that query term. Users normally tend to visit websites that are at the top of this list as they perceive those to be more relevant to the query. If you have ever wondered why some of these websites rank better than the others then you must know that it is because of a powerful web marketing technique called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

SEO is a technique which helps search engines find and rank your site higher than the millions of other sites in response to a search query. SEO thus helps you get traffic from search engines.

How to optimize website

There are two ways to optimize your website in which whole optimization depends and both ways are very important, one way is incomplete without another way.

      a)   On-page optimization.
      b)  Off-page optimization.

On-page optimization

Getting a good ranking in a search engine hasn’t been the easiest thing for many. Search engines are getting more smarter & intelligent everyday, so now it takes more than just good content to top your competitors.
On page optimization is one of the very first step of SEO which every webmaster should look into. It probably won’t even take you an hour to learn and implement some of these on-page optimization techniques. But you may ask me, why it is so important? – Well literally speaking, if you can do proper on-page optimization for your website you can not only rank well in a search engine but also can increase the overall readability of your website for your visitors.
the factors that depend in On-page optimization is totally depends on the content of websites and how you well used each tags and also closed it properly in the website.
# site analysis.                                                          #  layout and design.
# competition analysis.                                            #  proper meta tags.
#keyword analysis.                                                  #  images and air text.
# page titles.                                                           #   link titles
# body text and keyword density.                           #   optimization internal links
#headlines.                                                           #   the bottom menu
# bold/itelic text.                                                    #   site map
# domain names and suggestion.                        #    server and hosting check
# robots.text and robots meta tags.                     #    301 redirects.

Off page Optimization
Off Page Optimisation is work that you undertake outside of your website to improve your seo rankings and visibility for your customer. Off Page Optimisation is more focused on digital marketing of your website over internet.
Off Page Optimisation is more focused on link building work and Social Media Marketing. Website should have more and more backlinks from various quality website for seo ranking. Similarly Social Media is very important tool to market website over the internet.
off-page optimization is totally depend on the promotion of website through outside of website and it is equally important with on-page optimization.
The factors are
#  Directory Submission                                                #   blog commenting
#  Social Bookmarking Submission.                               #    review posting.
#  Blog Posting                                                            #    RSS feed submission.
